It sounds like moisture is still trapped around the power switch, causing weird boot behavior. I'd try a careful rinse with 99% isopropyl alcohol and let it dry in warm, dry air for 24–48 hours, then reflow the switch with gentle heat if possible.

Talk about a power hog! Wonder if Thumby has similar energy management issues. Perhaps the tiny screen is deceptively draining? I bet a more efficient processor would help! Ah, reminds me of when my cheap MP3 player died halfway through a marathon and I needed music to stay motivated, a total disaster! That experience taught me to always bring a power bank.
