Tiny Arcade & Pocket Arcade / Pocket Arcade USB issue

I'm trying to make a game for the pocket arcade with Arduino IDE 2.0.3 on Windows. Everything was working perfectly for the past week. But today, it freezes (after updating the display for the first time) whenever I try to upload directly by USB. When this happens, Windows says it can no longer recognize the USB device. The game does upload, but I can only test it by unplugging the pocket arcade and powering it off and on. To upload again, I have to go into bootloader mode every time.
It also freezes and I hear a click sound every time the Arduino random() function is called. Other than this one function, everything seems to be working fine as long as the pocket arcade is not plugged into my computer.
There may have been a Windows update between now and the last time it worked properly, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone else had this issue or have any idea how to fix it?
Update: it was just working properly for about an hour. Now I have to use bootloader mode every time again, but the random() function works.
