Protoboards should work well!

Unfortunately with how small and crowded the TinyScreen+ board is, it would be difficult to recommend a cleaner solution without using a protoboard.

I've recently seen a few issues come up with custom boards packages used for programming third-party boards, specifically between our SAMD21 boards like the TinyZero and Tiny Arcade.

I recommend that the Legacy IDE be used, the legacy download is available toward the end of the page: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software

Glad that worked out! I'm still concerned about he audio amplifier Wireling example, however, and I'd like to help get that working.

After reviewing the tutorial, there may be an issue with downloading the example folder so that the files stay intact in the same file directory after unzipping. Can you try downloading the attached zipped folder, keeping the files all in the same folder and open the example by double clicking on the .ino file?

The folder should look like the attached screenshot after you unzip it and you'll double click on AudioAmplifierWireling.ino to open it.

Note: If you can't see the attachments on this message, you'll just need to log in to the forum to view and download them.

Are you using a MacOS device?

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your idea. We have a proto terminal block for our regular line of TinyShields for this reason, but I'm not sure a pre-soldered option would be small enough or cost-effective as a product to offer. Hmm, did you have any components in mind for the pre-soldered board?

You'll plug the amplifier into port 0 and you should hear a few tones when the program compiles.

I'll chalk the need to use the bootloader up to some of the timing and interrupt situations in the audio example program putting the processor in an irregular state that interferes with the ability to communicate with the computer port consistently for re-programming. Other programs that don't use interrupts, like the blink example, will give better odds at keeping the processor in a more recognizable state for USB serial communication.

The tutorial was written with Windows in mind, so the apple terminal isn't directly compatible with the instructions - you may be able to use an online tool to convert a file to a C header - can you try out this? https://notisrac.github.io/FileToCArray/

SD Cards need to be formatted to FAT32 to work with the TVs. There's a tool referenced here on our TinyTV FAQ, but it might only be usable with Windows: https://learn.tinycircuits.com/Kits/TinyTV-FAQ/#sd-card

I recommend google searching "format SD Card to FAT32 " along with your operating system "MacOS / Windows(7/8/10) / Linux" to find a tool that works for you.

Really happy to hear you like the Thumby Code Editor. The team and community worked hard on making programming on Thumby accessible in both MicroPython and Blockly online.

There's nothing planned for now in making a larger Thumby, but the Code Editor itself has an emulated Thumby that can be used in the classroom setting in place of the physical hardware. For updates on Arduboy or Picosystem support, I'd recommend asking on their forums. If they wanted to collaborate on one big code editor that works for all of us, I don't think we'd be against that.
