Mac TinyTV Converter Issues

I've gotten the Tiny TV 2 as a gift for family members. I'm using the Mac app to convert videos and gift the TV fully loaded with family videos.

While the Mac app seems to convert videos, they are not compatible with the Tiny TV 2. I can't get any of them to work. The conversion finishes successfully, and I can view and play the .AVI files on my Mac, but the TV itself won't read them.

I've made sure the filenames are compatible and the correct TV is selected in the Mac app (I've also tried them all to no avail).

When inspecting the video files, the ones that ship with Tiny TV are AVIs using the Motion JPEG codec. The files converted with TinyTV Converter, however, are AVIs using the MPEG4 codec (at a much lower bit rate).

I'm using TinyTV Converter version 1.0.5 on macOS 15.2.

Anyone else have a similar issue and figure this out?

Even if the format is correct, the codec mismatch can cause playback issues. I had a situation where a device only supported MJPEG, but my converted files ended up using H.264. The best fix was manually selecting the right codec in a different converter since not all software gives codec customization options. If you need more control over formats and codecs, an alternative converter might help. I've had good results with this https://www.movavi.com/video-converter/ram-converter.html, which lets you choose specific output settings to match device requirements.

Create a script to automatically convert videos to a Tiny TV 2 compatible format (AVI with Motion JPEG codec). You just need to put all the videos you need to convert in a folder, run this command and it will generate compatible files.
