Recently I've discovered this design for a 0.4" x 0.4" arduino compatible board:
https://hackaday.io/project/3117-a-even-smaller-nanite fireboy and watergirl

My proposal:

  • a similarily sized Tinyduino, possibly powered by a small battery cell
  • a neopixel addon board which can be soldered to the bottom side of the board (using spacers)
Your proposal for a Tinyduino-like board with an add-on NeoPixel module sounds like an excellent compact design concept!

Think your cool toy would make a great midi controller.. found a USB midi library for the 841 here:

https://github.com/mimuz/mimuz-avr-core/tree/master/arduino/libraries/HybridMidiAttiny geometry dash game

what do you think? possible? could it be made wireless by attaching your bluetooth board with a bit of hacking?

seems like all the pins are used in the schematic, not sure tho.

Thanks, Tefriot

Turning your cool toy into a MIDI controller using the USB MIDI library for the ATtiny841 is a great idea, and integrating a Bluetooth module for wireless functionality is absolutely possible with a bit of planning and hacking.

After doing some searching, I found two sellers that sell the needed 5-pin screw terminals. Screw terminals are my preference, but 5-pin headers (the style used on Arduino shields) will work as well.

The first seller is Adafruit/Digi-Key. I'll provide both links here - Adafruit is currently out of stock, but their page references to purchase it from Digi-Key, which appears to have the part in-stock. From both Adafruit and Digi-Key, a single 5-pin screw terminal is $1.85.

The second seller is on Amazon, sold by Cermant. I've had good experience with Amazon-bought products before. A particular advantage for cost-efficiency is that Cermant offers the terminals in a bundle, which results in significantly cheaper costs per piece (the bundle of 10 pieces is $8.99, but per piece is $0.45).

Both options are rated for very high voltages and high currents. The first option handles 5A, the second, 6A.
Thank you. I have considered purchasing more.
