Thanks for the reply. As a software guy trying to learn some electronics I definitely don't feel comfortable trying to solder surface mount parts.

If I have a battery connected to a TinyDuino (something like a 3.7v 4400 mAh lithium ion) can I use the usb shield and have it supply power to a usb device?
