I just got and assembled my kickstarted TinyArcade and it's awesome!
But it won't recognize the microSD card. I've tried jamming it in there every way and I've settled on what I'm SURE is the right way.
What's going on? I've got sound and the joystick works.
Thanks,
-Travis

I'm having the same exact problem. And my name is also Travis, so imagine how surprised I was to find that I traveled through time.
Also, I checked the card and all of the files are there, but it still only recognizes the three games you can play when there's no card at all.

This is clearly a Travis interface issue.
- not Travis
-
Not the first time that's been an issue. But barring a name change, I'd suuuure like to play some Tiny Asteroids.
-
Hi Travis and Travis, really sorry about this- we've had a handful of reports of this and think we have a software fix, I'll update as soon as we know for sure.
Thanks,
Ben

sounds good!

Just got my tiny arcade assembled and I'm also having the same problem. Otherwise it works great.

Travis, I presume?

I'll be an honorary Travis, just built my tinyarcade and have the same issue.

Travis and others, we have a solution posted at https://tinycircuits.com/blogs/learn/171319495-tiny-arcade-menu-update
It does require using the Arduino IDE- let me know how this goes for you guys.
Thanks,
Ben

The fix worked for me! Thanks so much.

Well... it was all going well, but then the menu wouldn't actually upload. So I went back and did all of the steps again and uploded that sample graphics program...
And now that program won't go away. No sample games anymore, and when I get to STEP THREE...
Board is TinyScreen+
Build Option is TinyArcade Menu
Port is... there's no option for TinyScreen+
So now I'm looking at cycling graphics. Gonna try to see if I can start over at all, but any help is appreciated.
-
Yeah, still nothing. Now I'm just stuck on this graphics demo thing. Can't figure out how to reset this thing.
-Still Travis
-
I'm not sure what caused the menu to not upload originally. But now it sounds like the example program was uploaded with the 'Tiny Arcade Menu' build option :) That combination would result in no USB conection. There's a small troubleshooting section at the end of the TS+ setup page, but this something that we clearly need to improve- it describes how to 'reset' the TS+ board. The way to do this is by holding down the button nearest the USB connector(on the actual TS+ board) and turning TS+ on to get the upload port back. This will require a paperclip or something similar to poke into the side of the Tiny Arcade to press the button. Let me know if you need a better description- I might not be able to get a picture up for a few days.
-
Aha! I did it! Thanks for the walkthrough. I took it halfway apart to figure out where the button was... then realized that I could've gotten to it through a convenient hole. I'm back in action with the whole array of games.
Thanks, Ben! This is great.

Thanks for posting the update on how to update the "firmware". Is there a way to access the usb port of the TS+ without taking apart the TinyArcade? I've already chipped many of my pieces taking the thing apart and back together again.

you mean where to plug in the adapter? you can get in from the big hole in the bottom.

LOL, Glad to see some good humor in the forum.
Also glad to see the problem resolved without having to change customer's names. :)

hello there, i have managed to load the update firmware, but am still haveing issues with the unit not finding cards. i have used three different cards, a brand new 8gig, a 64gig, and a 128 gig, and none of them are recognised.
help please.
i was thinking i should have left the demo games on.
cheers

The 8GB one should be the best to use. It needs to be formatted FAT32 which it most likely already is, and the game folders must be in the root directory- the current zip file which you must unzip is at https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1125/2198/files/TinyArcadeAllGames.zip?6453075709680806705

i have just reformated, and loaded th games on, and still is says it cannot find card....
sigh
-
Make sure you put each individual game folder in the root directory.
If you put one folder with all the game folders in it, in the root directory, it will say it cannot find the card.

i have read this whole postand done everything that was required, but it is still saying that it cand find card or games....i have re updated the firm ware...still not love.
could there be a fault with the card reader?
cheers
PS this is getting really annoying.

We test every board before shipping, but it's always possible that there's a hardware problem. Can you make sure the flex board is completely plugged into the TinyScreen+ board inside the arcade? If it is, send an email to info@tinycircuits.com and we'll figure something out.
Thanks,
Ben

I was going to post that I was having the same issue after going though all the steps to update the menu, but it turns out that the microSD card was formatted as exFAT. I tried a different (smaller) card and it worked right away.
-
ok so thank you for everyones input... turns out the two boards were still slightly unplugged....i pulled the case apart, and pushed...didnt feel anything click, but the nect time i turned the arcade on...voila it started and all the games were there..
thank thank thank you sll...good times

I had the same problem. My TinyArcade was working fine, until i connected it through USB to my computer. After that, it would not recognize the SD card. I formatted the card several times and copied the games back, but it did not help. I was already going mad, not being able to fix the problem, when I found this thread. Turned out, that the two boards were not fully connected, which might have been caused by plugging the USB cable in and out. A gentle push on the case solved the problem, the SD card is now recognized again. ;)
