A long should be 16 bits, right? 500 longs should be 1000 bytes, using only half of the RAM available.

It depends on the compiler, but I think longs are 32 bits on this architecture.

Assuming you didn't bend the connector and the cable is intact, I am sure you have power-cycled the unit by now.  Do likewise with the computer to assure the USB subsystem is fully re-initialized.

Ken, Are you sure you can use both at once?  My experience is that initializing the CC3000 puts the GPS to sleep (the GPS issues a $PSRF150,0*3F and goes quiet).  If I try to explicitly wake the GPS by toggling GPS_ONOFFPin (which is A3), that messes up the CC3000 since it also uses A3 as VBATT.   Any help would be very welcome.
